Using your Nokia E61 as a card reader

Hello,

Thanks to L0cutus on my-symbian forum for that very useful trick! It's probably written somewhere in the manual, I suppose, but I hadn't yet found the time to try... Anyway, here it is:

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you don't select "PC Suite" in the menu that appears on your Nokia E61 when you connect it to your PC using the USB cable? What if you select "Data Transfer", for instance?

Well, as explained by L0cutus, unlike Nokia's file manager included in PC Suite, where you can read/write data on the memory card but not access to the protected folders, if you use the "Data Transfer" mode you get full, unrestricted acces to the whole content of the memory card. Very useful to install programs like Route 66 without having to purchase a memory card reader, as I did. ;-)

The only "downside" of using that mode instead of PC Suite is that you can't access to the phone memory, and also it automatically turns off wireless when connecting the cable, although it'll be turned on again when disconnecting.

I hope knowing this can help someone else...

Bye!

Yet another blog...

Hello world!

Some time ago, after running a PDA website for some time I decided to shut it down - or more precisely to stop updating it, and spend a couple of years posting articles here and there on other people's websites.

Writing full-featured articles with pictures is a bit tedious at times, and as time went by I began to look for a faster alternative which would let me spend less time on content formatting, and I think that this blog may be part of the answer to my problem.

Don't hold your breath for daily updates, though, as I plan to do that more or less on a weekly basis.

The topics will be PDA and smartphone-centered, and reflect both my current line of thoughts and, of course, my current hardware/software setup.

At the moment, as far as hardware is concerned, I'm using a Nokia E61 smartphone running S60 3rd edition Symbian, so I'll obviously cover related topics most of the time, with quick or in depth reviews of S60 applications, tips & tricks about this smartphone, etc.
